A vernier caliper is a high-precision manual length measuring tool that can accurately measure the outer diameter, inner diameter, depth, and step dimensions of workpieces, with higher measurement accuracy than ordinary rulers. It is available in two types: mechanical vernier calipers and digital electronic vernier calipers, with common measuring ranges of 150mm, 200mm, and 300mm. Working Principle
The main scale reads the integer millimeter value, while the vernier scale is offset from the main scale. The fractional part is determined based on the aligned scale marks. Electronic digital calipers use a grating sensor to detect displacement and directly display the precise reading on the screen. The inner and outer measuring jaws are used for measuring outer diameters and bore diameters, respectively, while the depth rod at the tail measures the depth of grooves and holes.
