A clamp meter, also known as a clamp-on ammeter, is a portable electrical measuring instrument. Its core advantage is that it can directly measure AC current by clamping a single conductor with its open-close jaws, without the need to disconnect the circuit or pierce the wire. Most models integrate multimeter functions, capable of measuring parameters such as voltage, resistance, continuity, frequency, temperature, and DC current. They are available in digital and analog versions, are handheld and portable, and are commonly used by electricians for live inspections and current troubleshooting in circuits.
